Klutch Kickers - RD 1 - Holt, FL [3/13/21]

Off to an interesting start - left at midnight on Friday and drove through the night. Super tired, felt like it took 2 days to get there. Went straight to the track and unloaded! Spent some time having some dinner on the beach Friday night and called it early so that we could feel fresh Saturday morning

Car was feeling good - no big issues to sort out. Hyped on the new livery and to drive again on a familiar track. Saturday we had a few hours of practice before going into qualifying. I was feeling good, but not quite in my normal groove on my practice runs.

For some reason this round I was really diggin the dirt drops on outer zone 3!!! Hahaha.

We ended up having to qualify in the dark by the end of the day. Which is not the worst but sometimes tricky to adjust to when you’ve been practicing in the daylight all day! Our first qualifying run scored a 85 and then our second qualifying run scored a 92! Not too shabby!! Alec Hohnadell ended up taking us by 1 point taking P1. Apparently the call was pretty close but came down to who made more smoke! Arghhh hahaa. Regardless, we were still hyped on qualifying P2!

Saturday we got some good practice laps in with other drivers. Again, car was running great and I felt in the zone!

Luckily, in Top 64 we were able to snag a BYE RUN. Which unfortunately meant sitting cold from 11:30am after practice till about 4:30 or so since we didn’t take our bye runs.

Our first battle was with Ben Hobson in his corvette!!! This was such a fun and exciting battle. Luckily, we were able to take the win but Ben sure did lay down some smooth runs! Hyped to get more laps in with him in the future!!!

After Ben, we ended up battling with Dustin Miles next. I laid down a pretty solid lead run but unfortunately on my chase run, Dustin got away from me in outer zone 2. I caught back up in outer zone 3, however this lead me to overthink my actions and I basically got “lost in the moment,” felt like I was going to hit him and then ended up dirt dropping on outer zone 3 again - that’s when he really pulled away. I was hoping it would be a ONE MORE TIME from the judges but sadly our night ended early and Dustin ended up getting the win!!! Lesson learned and notes were taken in order to head into Round 2 with a solid plan of attack to get on the podium!!!!

Overall, round 1 was a success in our books. The car ran great, the team was in good spirits and of course getting to mingle and connect with the community is truly what it’s all about. Klutch Kickers does a rad job of taking care of their drivers and provides an awesome environment for not only the drivers but the fans as well! We are looking forward to a GREAT year ahead with 4 more rounds to come!!!!
